Never Eat Alone
By Keith Ferrazi
Keith Ferrazi is a networking madman. Never Eat Alone explores the importance of connecting with others, and how the most successful people in the world are expert networkers. He explores how to create action plans to find new business, new mentors, new mentees, and new friends all in the service of growing your network and ultimately influence in the world. His main argument: never eat alone.
“It’s better to give before you receive. And never keep score. If your interactions are ruled by generosity, your rewards will follow suit.”
Thoughts
I don’t know if I like Keith Ferrazi because he comes off as braggy throughout the majority of this book, but I do think he is a highly intelligent man who knows what he’s talking about. That’s because he built his whole career off of networking. Don’t believe me? He’ll tell you. And tell you. And then tell you some more. Despite his tone, lots of lessons come out of this book. While I probably won’t be cold calling strangers just to connect I have been intentional about connecting more with my network, both professionally and personally. I’ve put calendar holds every morning to have breakfast with colleagues that I consider great friends, and have made it a point to get lunch with someone new each week in a field or role I find interesting. Putting down your technology, finding time to listen to someone else, and making sure you are able to provide value in every interaction are soft skills that this book reminded me are so important.
