One More Thing

By B.J. Novak

You know him as Ryan, the intern from the hit TV series and perfectly bingeable The Office. But did you know B.J. Novak is apparently an author too? In this collection of short stories he proves that he can do a thing or two with a pen and paper. Addressing multiple themes and narratives, Novak takes us on a zany journey into the mind of one of the writers of The Office. From reaching heaven with a burning mission to tell his grandma everything he couldn’t in life only to find her giving a blowjob to to Elvis, to answering in his glorified Ryan way: does slow and steady really win the race? You’ll be sure to find something for you in here.

“If you love something, let it go. If you don’t love something, definitely let it go. Basically, just drop everything, who cares.”

Thoughts

So I bet you can guess why I picked this up right? B.J. Novak was an actor, writer and director of The Office which is my go to show on Netflix. The only thing that could maybe take that screen time away from me is Parks and Rec which is practically the same thing. With that said I came into this with no real expectations. Just looking for a laugh or a that’s what she said joke. I’m a simple man. Novak has solid content in here and yes some of the stories are funny. Others are not. It is pretty hit or miss. The redeeming quality of this is that they are all short stories so you can jump around if a title of a chapter jumps out at you like “The Man Who Posted Pictures of Everything He Ate”. All in all it’s a pretty good read, and worth checking out if you are a fan of The Office and want to see what Ryan is up to when he isn’t working on WUPHF.com. You’re bound to find at least one story that makes you smile or chuckle.
